    New information regarding World War I and II fallen of the Benarty area has been added to the the website and can be viewed by going to the “More Historical Information” menu scroll down to War Information and then select from the sub menu on the right.

    Cpl Hugh Kane DCM, MM & Bar has also been added to the Hall of Fame.

  • World War One Dead

    A message from Dave Blane regarding his research on the WWI & WWII dead from the Benarty area.

    If you have any information on someone who died during the conflicts and who you would like recorded in the Benarty record please get the information to us before the 31st of July as this is the cut off date and anything received after this date will not be record in the area record.

  • New Additions to Site

    I have added a few new photos over the past couple of days and will be adding more shortly. The photos come from the Murphy and Ross Families.

    I have also added a new document called Ballingry Parish History this document comes from Dr Simon Taylor’s series of books entitled Place Names of Fife. Dr Taylor has kindly given us permission to use the extract relating to Ballingry on our site and can be found by going to Historical Information then Ballingry then Ballingry Parish History or by clicking here

    New photos have been added and thanks to Lindsay Farmer for the photo of Ballingry Manse and Church and to the Murphy family for the other 3 photos.

    If anyone has photos they’d like to share please email me. I’m looking for photos relating to St Kenneth’s RC Primary school for an exhibition later this year so if you have any please get in touch.

    A new video of Lochore House Youth Club has been added to the Videos Page. The film is another cine film from Jackie Scott’s archive and is entitled ‘Hamilton Party’. It is fitting that last person seen on the film at 13m 59s is Jackie himself.

    The photos show members of Lochore Institute Committee at the gala held at Lochore House.

    Photo 2 show children from St Kenneth’s RC Primary School choir and Photo 3 show member from Lochore Institute on a visit to a distillery.

    I would like to thank Elma Brown for providing the photos, more will be added soon.

    Thanks to John Ross for emailing me 2 family photos. The first was taken in Helensburgh around 1952 and shows Betty Ross, John Ross and Alex Ross.

    The second photo shows John Ross, David Brough and (Sonny)Stevie Murray on a visit to Blackpool in 1960.

  • New Name Added to Hall of Fame

    A new name has been add to the Hall of Fame Sir John Clarke George, KBE, CstJ was a coalminer and politician. He was one of a very small band of Conservative Members of Parliament to have been working miners.

  • Open Evening 18 November

    Benarty Heritage Preservation Group is holding an Open Evening on the evening of 18th November 2013 from 7pm to 9pm to which everyone is welcome to attend. The aim of the event is to showcase some of the projects that the group is currently involved in.  For example the Lochore Castle Project, the World War I Memorial Books, an exhibition of some of the photos the group have.

    Some of the individually made books that the group have produced will be on sale during the evening and advance orders can be placed to purchase copies of which will be VERY limited editions of the various books being exhibited.
